Marianne Cornet draws attention to suicide prevention.
From her personal involvement and within the framework of the World Suicide Prevention Day on Wednesday 10 September next, the Surinamese singer Marianne Cornet releases a composition that highlights the subject. ‘Suicide is a tragedy for all persons involved. That is why we should keep our eyes open, be alert to the symptoms and, whenever possible, intervene. If we are the ones thinking of suicide, we must seek help!’
The song ‘Darkness of Day’ tells the story from the perspective of the depression that most frequently precedes the attempt. One tries to find a solution, wants to block the pain. The song describes that state of mind and at the same time strengthens the will to get out of it- it encourages to seek help.
FromSu Record Company approached the Swarnapath Foundation for advice and their cooperation. With this in mind, there has been consultation about the filming of the song ‘Darkness of Day’, the making of the video clip and the lead role played by actress Marilyn Malinda (Guyana).
A local version of the video clip will be shown on several television channels and the official clip appeared today on YouTube.
The Swarnapath Foundation (The Golden Road) is the only one in Suriname specialized in offering professional help to people with suicidal thoughts. The Mind Console Centre is located at 166, Jagernath Lachmonstraat, (opposite ANS) and is open from Monday to Friday, from 08.00 hrs. / 13.30 hrs. The phone number is: 53 10 20. The foundation also offers guidance and support to surviving family members who have lost a loved one by suicide. Help is free and no doctor’s card needed, the focus being on the high level of confidentiality.
Marianne Cornet: Let’s face it: in our small community almost everybody knows someone who committed or attempted to commit suicide…
That is why I’ve dedicated the song ‘Darkness of Day: ‘For anyone who has lost a loved one.’
